Summers can be warm, but cooler if you are in the hills. Real estate ranges from apartments and well-kept older homes to expensive
custom hillside homes that offer amazing views, to Victorians, Queen Annes, craftsman cottages as well as contemporary homes built in the 1960's.
Escondido is home to the California Center for the Arts and it serves as an entrance to the San Diego Wild Animal Park.
Southern Escondido borders Lake Hodges and is home to the North County Fair, which is the county's largest climate-controlled mall. Real estate in this area is
more affordable than what you will find in other parts of north county.
South of Escondido on I-15 is wonderful Rancho Bernardo. It is a master planned community of nearly 50,000 with certain areas designated for
commercial and residential development. Rancho Bernardo has a rather large senior population, as the main street will attest, which is lined with
brokerage houses, banks and medical offices. Rancho Bernardo began, approximately, 30 years ago as a retirement community, but today it is also home to
a growing number of young professionals; with the additions of several new technological & electronic firms, including Sony, Hewlett Packard and Qualcomm.
Bordering Lake Hodges to the north,
Rancho Bernardo homes offers a wide variety of real estate, ranging from patio homes to custom
residences with acreage. Several of Rancho Bernardo's residents belong to a community center with swimming pools, tennis courts, and recreation centers for
a low monthly fee. Rancho Bernardo is also located in the Poway School District.
Located just south is Rancho Penasquitos, which is a growing, middle to upper-class, community. Rancho Penasquitos gives a sense of privacy, as
it is home to several who commute to other areas for work. Housing consists mostly of private, 3 to 4 bedroom homes, blended with secluded hills & canyons.
With lots of development in this area, it is on its way to becoming a San Diego County favorite.
Continue south on I-15 toward San Diego and you will come to
Poway. This community is considered to be one of the most ideal places in the
entire US to raise a family. Unlike many of the areas in San Diego County, Poway has intentionally maintained a country-like atmosphere and
has the lowest home density of any other city in the county. An ideal horse community, the areas of Bridlewood and Green Valley feature homes
on 1/2 to 1 acre lots, with horse trails winding throughout. Rated among the highest in California, the Poway Unified School District has helped
make this area such an ideal place to raise kids. Recreational activities, such as hiking or maybe a nice family picnic can be found at Lake Poway.
