By region, the home ownership rate in the Midwest was 73%, 65.3% in the Northeastern part of the country, 70.8% in the southern states and 64.5% in the Western U.S. The home ownership rate for African Americans is 48.2%, Caucasians, 76% and 49.5% for Hispanics. The Census data also shows a rise in ownership rates for persons 65 and older at 81.2%, an increase from 80.6%. The rate of home ownership for the 55-64 age segments was unchanged at 80.7%. These figures are from the fourth quarter of 2005.
On the other side, home ownership rates for the 45-54 age segments dropped to 76.4% from a previous rate of 76.7%. Ownership rates also dropped in the 35-44 age segments from 42.8% from 43.1%.
