The Appeal of a Property Assessment Can Pay Off
According to experts, appealing a tax assessment is not a difficult process. If the appeal is granted, it can reduce what a home owner pays by a substantial amount.

It is wise to keep in mind that each community and city has its own procedures for the appeal process. The advice that follows can apply to any appeal.

Begin by calling the office of the tax assessors. Find out how the property is being assessed then address your concerns.

Ensure that the assessor's office has recorded the correct physical description of your property. This should include correct square footage of the home as well as the correct number of bedrooms and bathrooms.
Inform the assessor's office about things that an outside inspection does not reveal. These could include: a crack in the foundation, or other problems that may not be easily solved.
Make note of other homes in your neighborhood that are similar to yours in quality and size, but have received lower assessment amounts.
