Suburbanites desire more urban
Suburban cities are currently working with developer and planners to create new town centers for downtown living.
According to urban planners, the best reason to develop downtown living is to encourage commerce. The current trend in retail is going from the mall to Main Street. Shoppers desire a return to that feeling of place that the older downtowns offered.

A challenge that developers face is the need to include affordable housing in developments in spite of high land costs. In order for the new downtown concepts to work, a number of service workers are required. One positive note is that the inclusion of affordable housing can offer a greater level of diversity amongst residents. One theory is that the closer everyone is to their job, the happier they are and the longer they will remain at that job.

Developers are also working to hire multiple architects to design different aspects of new downtown condos.
