High Performance Homes" what are they?
"High performance" is a new term which is being used by the home building industry to describe homes that are energy efficient; but not necessarily green.
Homes that are described as "high performance" offer an efficient heating and cooling system which provides clean indoor air within a "tight envelope" to prevent the escape of cold or hot air. High performance homes are insulated very well to maintain a consistent temperature in each room. There is some debate as to whether or not high performance homes can also be considered "green"; a process which involves the usage of sustainable materials and a consideration of the building life cycle.

Most builders continue to build with a focus on energy efficiency first; as one half of the points builders must earn to be certified as green are tied to energy efficiency.

Builders of high performance homes ensure that homes must be situated so that shade and sun can be used for cooling and heating purposes.
