Appreciation of Home Prices Showing Signs of Returning to Normal
The average price of a home in the U.S. showed an increase of only 1.12% during the 4th quarter of last year. This is compared to an increase of 3.03% during the 4th quarter of 2005. This information is from a report filed by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight.
Home prices rose by 5.9% throughout 2006, which is compare to a 2005 increase of 13.2%.

The director of the OFHEO, James Lockhart states that these figures suggest that the current percentages are more inline with historical norms.

OFHEO further reports that the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2006 displayed economical strength along with falling interest rates which helped to prevent a more substantial drop in the housing market.
