February Reports Show Increase in New-Home Construction
The U.S. Commerce Department reports that construction starts of new apartments and homes went up to a seasonally adjusted rate of 1.525 million units annually.
The figure of 1.525 million units illustrates a marked increase over the numbers posted in January 2007. At that time, construction starts had fallen 14.3%.

Building permits are the tool used in the tracking of future construction activity, showed a decline of 2.5% in February reflecting an annual rate of 1.532 million units. This indicator could suggest a continued slow down in the industry.

A strategist with the firm of RBS Greenwich Capital, Omair Sharif, states that construction activity is predicted to remain slow in the coming months.
