More Buyers Want to Walk to Goods and Services
The next market trend could be geared towards families that do not have any school-age children. These households tend to be buyers that desire neighborhoods where goods and services are within walking distance to their homes.
The most current information shows that up to 40% of Americans desire urban living environments where they are able to walk to entertainment, shopping, restaurants and even their jobs. It is the current belief that the current trend to move downtown could very well be the force that leads the housing market completely out of its slump.

In light of this trend, however, builders in several cities around the country are being forced to offer incentives to buyers or even convert unsold condos to apartments due to slower sales.

Other trends in urban living include:

Cities will begin to cater more to households without children while families continue to migrate to the suburbs.

Empty nesters and their adult children will be able to live adjacent to one another in condominiums and townhouses.

Increased sales to single women who will move to cities as those areas become safer.

City governments will put increased pressure on builders to provide residential and retail in new developments.
