Number of Green Buildings on the Rise
With energy-efficient homes continuing to be the exception, green building is gaining momentum. This information is provided by the U.S. Green Building Council along with the National Association of Home Builders.
Green building has grown into a $12 billion industry. According to the USGBC; only a decade ago, the number was "negligible."

According to a recent survey of local home building associations, more than 97,000 homes have now been built and LEED-certified since the mid 90's. These homes were constructed using voluntary, builder-supported green building programs across the nation. These numbers account for a 50% increase since 2004 when the most recent survey was conducted.

The current increase is not showing any signs of slowing. The United States Green Building Council just welcomed its 10,000th member. The organizations are made up of builders, government agencies, universities and non-profits which are devoted to the promotion of green construction.

Both the USGBC and NAHB are currently in the process of creating a set of standards and guidelines for green construction and to help promote continued growth of the industry.
