Home Builder Confidence Still High As 2015 Gets Under Way
Home builders are optimistic about the housing market heading into 2015, according to a survey released Tuesday by the National Association of Home Builders and Wells Fargo. The group's monthly gauge of builder sentiment declined by one point from it previous reading, but remained near its highest levels since 2005, well before the crash. January's reading came in at 57, meaning that 57 percent of the builders surveyed believe the market is in good shape. Builders' sentiment about upcoming sales of single-family homes fell 4 points to 60 in the latest reading, while a measure of builders' views on present conditions held steady at 62. A reading of builder confidence in prospective buyer traffic was the only negative in the January builder confidence survey, falling from a December reading of 46 to 44.
