Amazon Posts Job Openings for San Diego Area Bookstore
Amazon posted a number of ads this week looking for store managers, booksellers and gadget enthusiasts for a retail bookstore in the "La Jolla or San Diego area". The move signals the e-commerce giant's interest into entering the brick-and-mortar retail world. A San Diego bookstore would be the company's second physical location, after it opened a similar bookstore in Seattle-s University Village shopping center in November. In addition to providing a place for customers to browse books and magazines, the store also gives Amazon plenty of shelf-space to show off its growing catalog of gadgets like Nook readers and Fire tablets. While just a couple of stores won't make Amazon a retail presence, the company opened eyes earlier this week when its goal of opening 300 to 400 US bookstores was made public. Insiders expect, however, that a more reasonable goal would be to open about a dozen over the next year or two.
