How Green Remodeling Can Pay Off
San Diego Homeowners who are considering remodeling their homes should look into "Green" remodeling practices. Green practices can really pay off in lower utility bills and greater home value when the home is sold.
Below are a few things to consider when going green while remodeling:

Products which are energy-efficient. Select Energy Star labeled appliances, low flush toilets, compact fluorescent lights and low-flush toilets.

Choose spray-foam insulation. Seal your home with insulation that does not let the heat or air conditioning leak out.

Wood flooring which is sustainable. Choose flooring which is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council which protects forest by managing the amount of wood which is harvested each year.

Products which are locally made. Purchase products which are manufactured less than 250 miles away in order to reduce transit costs. For example, granite is usually imported from afar.

Use non-toxic paints. Choose paints that are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) - chemicals which evaporate into our atmosphere. Look for Green Seal certified brands.
