Downtown San Diego Waterfront Projects Get Panel Support
Downtown San Diego: Two key components of the city's ongoing makeover of the bay front, the Broadway Pier cruise ship terminal and the Lane Field development recently won crucial support from the San Diego Port Commission.
Neither of these outstanding projects are a done deal, as question and concerns remain.

The cruise ship terminal make over proposals varied in design level as well as cost. A sleek and modern design won out over two other less expensive, yet rather utilitarian design concepts for a new terminal. Funding is being solicited from the Centre City Development Corporation before any commitment is made to the $23.6 million budget.

Port commissioners also showed support for the redevelopment of nearby Lane Field, a past location of the ball park where the Pacific Coast League San Diego Padres once played. The site is currently a parking lot which could be divided into sites to construct two hotels which would overlook Broadway Pier. The two new hotels could feature rooftop terraces
