David McCormick, who is the Undersecretary for International Affairs, said at a recent La Jolla, California conference that they plan to decrease the gap in funding between the newer, more advanced technology and the older, less expensive technology. He also added that the US will be in the forefront and one of the top donors. McCormick stated that they have already been in discussions with some potential donors and the plan is to make it happen later in the year.
At the La Jolla conference, McCormick stated that most of the developing countries still use the least expensive route when it comes to powering, developing and industrial technologies, which equates to the use of much older and outdated technology. McCormick claims that through the year 2030, it may cost these developing countries thirty billion dollars in order for them to make the transition to a cleaner country.
The key is to stimulate growth in an environmentally friendly way.
