SDSU Trustees Given Green Light for Expansion
San Diego State University has just received the go ahead for expansion plans that would enable the university to grow its capacity by 10,000 students. California State University Trustees anticipate the student population to reach 45,000 by the year 2025.
The current campus is located at the intersection of the 8 freeway and College Avenue, just east of the mid-city neighborhoods of San Diego. The plan would push current university boundaries across the 8 freeway to the north of the campus to construct new staff and student housing which will consist of four ten-story resident halls, a new conference center and apartment complex. Plans on the existing campus include the renovation and expansion of the existing Student Union. On the south side of the 8 freeway and to the east of campus, new classrooms and offices will be constructed along with an on-campus hotel adjacent to Alvarado Hospital.

Some area residents are concerned over the impact that the expansion will have on their neighborhood due to increased traffic and student population; many of which feel that their concerns have been overlooked by the Trustees.
