La Jolla Playhouse Update
Memphis, a musical written by Joe DiPierto (words) and David Bryan (music), will be coming to the La Jolla Playhouse on August 19th and will continue through September 28th. Memphis is the story of a white disc jockey, in the 50's, who was brave enough to play R&B music to his audience, who were made up of mostly white teenagers.
The La Jolla Playhouse will open its 2008 season on April 8th with 33 Variations, a play about a man's journey to discover the source of Beethoven's intrigue over a waltz.

Another highlight to the La Jolla Playhouse is Tobacco Road directed by David Schweizer and is adapted from the novel by Erskine Caldwell, originally written in 1932. Tobacco Road is about sharecroppers in Georgia during the Great Depression.

On November 11th to December 21st, the La Jolla Playhouse will wrap up this years season with a production of Xanadu. Unfortunately, there will be no Olivia Newton John, but it is directed by the Broadway production director, Ashley, so it is sure to be entertaining.
