During the last few years, Scripps has been having budget cut, after budget cut. So, in response to this, the good
people at Scripps may have stumbled upon a solution, by allowing donors to name a unique and new species.
In the past, the one who discovered the new species, generally gave us its name. Now a hydrothermal vent worm could possibly
have your name. Once the name has been decided upon, it will be sent to specific publications, which introduces the new species, which
ultimately establishes the new name.
The cost of having one of the precious sea creatures named after you can be from $5,000 to $50,000. The money will then be used
to help the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego continue to grow. So, if you
live in La Jolla, and would like to
have your name go down in history, here's your chance.
