With the addition of wireless phones, the nearly 8 million phone numbers have hit their peak. In fact, there
are less than forty 3-digit combinations left, which will hit their maximum in less than two years.
Personally, I do not see it as big of a problem as if it were to happen in the past. Since the use of cell phones, people more often
type in the area code along with the number. This alone should make the transition tolerable. Plus, think about it; A person might
live in a condo in
downtown San Diego where their prefix is 619, then they may work in an area like
Encinitas (760) and
then come to
La Jolla (858) for a day of rest. That's not confusing, is it?
