La Jolla Cove Makes Best of List
La Jolla has been named as one of the top 50 open water swims, something La Jolla residents have known for years. The first
race started was held in 1916 by seven men who decided to swim the 1.7 miles, starting at the La Jolla Cove, in La Jolla.
Nearly ten years later another group of men, with the addition of eleven women, made the swim. A quarter of a century later,
over one hundred swimmers entered the race. Eventually, so many people started to come out for the race that they had
to impose a maximum of two thousand entries allowed.
