The magazine collected information from more than five thousand medical centers across the country and set out
to rank the top sixteen specialties. For the hospitals Respiratory Disorders program, UCSD came in 6th place for the
entire United States and has been in the top ten for nearly a decade. The pulmonary program has also been in the
top ten for almost a decade as well.
Depending on how long you have lived in San Diego, you probably have heard, at some point, about UCSD's constant
attention to detail and their strive to excel when it comes to research and innovation. They are leading the
way when it comes to surgical procedures, treating respiratory diseases, lung transplants and other breathing
related ailments.
UC San Diego Medical Center operates out of two hospitals in the local area, with more specialty and primary care units, one of
them being located here in La Jolla. Other locations include Scripps Ranch and Hillcrest. In addition there is also a
La Jolla location for their Ophthalmology Center, located at the Shiley Eye Center.
The location in Hillcrest has just expanded its intensive care unit by adding more beds. This in response to the
increasing number of ill infants and premature births, in San Diego. The La Jolla medical campus will be expanding by
integrating their training programs and their thorough research with the patient care system. In the future, this will
speed up their process of taking something from the discovery stage into the results stage, by being able to
diagnose, prevent and treat at a much faster pace.
UCSD has always prided themselves on selecting the best physicians, nurses and patient care staff from the best hospitals in
the nation.
