Cutting Edge La Jolla
I've said this before in previous blogs, but I am going to say it again, La Jolla and San Diego continue to lead the way on everything from ocean research to global warming. Scripps Institute is probably the most famous, but there is also the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Burnham Institute that specializes in medical research. In addition to the college, UCSD, there is General Atomics and the Science Applications Corporation.
Incredible coastal views and scenic marvels are the main reason people move to La Jolla. However, people such as K. Barry Sharpless, who won a Nobel Prize for chemistry sites the scenery and the scientific power as the reason for him making the move to San Diego. Mr. Sharpless says that he also enjoys swimming in the La Jolla Cove, going from La Jolla Shores to the Cove, which is a distance of a couple of miles.

Also, the U.S. Navy has been courted by San Diego for the last one hundred years, which has helped immensely with San Diego's economic growth. Areas such as Del Mar, Coronado and of course La Jolla have also helped keep San Diego's economy stable. Those communities help continue to fund the city, even when times get a bit tougher economically, much like they are now.
