La Jolla: Recent Heavy Rains Unveil New problems with Slide Area
Heavier than expected rainfall last week revealed slight additional movement of the landslide area atop Mt. Soledad in La Jolla. City engineers are working hard to keep water off of the slide area by covering it with heavy plastic sheeting and using pumps to remove water build-up on the sheeting during rainfall. The need to keep water off the slide area is important for two reasons, to keep the area from moving more while crews work to secure it, and to preserve valuable forensic evidence of the original slide event.
