Big Changes for San Diego's Lindberg Field in First Stages
San Diego- there is big changes in store for San Diego's largest airport, Lindberg Field. An additional ten gates are to be added to terminal two, along with a second-level of roadway at that terminal which will allow for separate arrival and departure locations. Terminal two will also see the addition of a new short-term parking structure. On the tarmac, a new airfield apron is to be constructed which will allow more overnight jetliner parking.
The San Diego Airport Authority has produced a draft Environmental Impact Report regarding these proposed improvements. Residents of San Diego have until the end of December to comment on the study. Public hearings are expected to begin in March, 2008. When those hearings are completed, the board will vote on the certification of the Economic Impact Report. If all goes as planned, construction could begin in mid-2009, with a completion date of 2012.

A spokesperson for Lindberg Field has stated that additional retail and dining options could be a part of the improvements and will be announced at a later date.

Approximately 17.5 million passengers pass through Lindberg Field each year. That number is currently projected to increase to upwards of 27 million by the year 2030.
