Resident Leary of Freeway Project
Carmel Valley / Del Mar - At a meeting which was held on November 15 of the interstate 5/ Hwy 56 connector project Steering Committee, dozens of local residents were in attendance to listen to and voice their concerns over a proposed connector ramp on the west side of Interstate 5 which would connect up with the newly-completed Hwy 56 freeway.
The controversy surrounding the new I ramp is the proposal of the implementation of imminent domain which would require that 30 homes be razed to make room for the new ramp. An additional 20 more homes would sacrifice back yard space. Highway developers stress the need for a more seamless connection of the two major arteries. As the connection exists in its current state, drivers are required to go through a stoplight, which slows traffic flow down.

Alternate project options were discussed at the meeting, one which would only require 2 homes to be razed.
