Ideas for Downsizing your Home
Many people are considering downsizing their homes in light of current economic times. This can either be a traumatic or positive experience for homeowners, largely depending on their individual circumstances. Below are five suggestions to make the downsizing process run smoothly and with less stress.
Involve the entire family in the process. Have children that have left the nest but left belongings behind? Simply asking them to collect their left-behind items can make a significant dent in the process.

Eliminate the items that are infrequently used. Sort through items which have been placed in the attic, garage, storage unit, or even the top-most shelves of the kitchen or closets first.

Upload photographs and papers/mementos. Consider digitizing your memories online. This process can keep your memories safer longer and can be a great way to reduce clutter.

Consider including some or all of your furniture in the sale of your home. This can assist you in the move to your new, smaller home while adding incentive to the sale.

Begin the process early! Once you have decided to sell your home and downsize, immediately start the process of downsizing with the "downsizing" of your possessions. Throughout this process, it is suggested that you hire a professional home stager to properly weed out excess items from your home in order to make it more attractive to buyers by allowing them to see your home as theirs.
