The report, entitled the 2009 Growth and Transportation Survey, discusses American's opinions as to the manner in which their home communities are addressing development and the meeting of the transit needs of residents.
Americans who participated in the survey showed favor towards the further development of intercity railroads and transit options. Also preferred were walking and biking options over the construction of additional highways. A large majority of people surveyed agreed that the number one priority should be the repairing and maintenance of existing bridges and roads. A mere sixteen percent expressed a desire to have additional roads and highways built.
Regarding traffic issues, forty-seven percent want public transit options improved and/or expanded, twenty-five percent want new communities built with infrastructure which encourages biking and walking options. More than 50% feel that the government is not focusing nearly enough attention of both intercity and light rail transit options.
The survey involved just over one thousand adult participants via telephone and was conducted in early January.
