During the April 2 meeting a trustee on the committee, Dan Courtney stated that the possibility of future paid parking was not dead.
The members of LJCPA presented what they have called a "rainbow curb" plan which if enacted would add an additional sixty four parking spaces to the village, mostly through the elimination of valet and passenger loading zones.
Ed Ward, the creator of the rainbow curbs survey stated that this would be the first step of the parking management plan. Ward also stated that the public should know that the committee would fight the installation of meters in the village to the end.
Mr. Ward stated that the rainbow curb survey focused on parking spaces which companies were not using, drive-through spaces which have been abandoned, commercial loading zones which are not needed anymore, and spaces which have been painted red illegally by business owners. By reducing the number of these types of curb spaces, Ward's plan projects that over 60 spaces could be added throughout the village.
The proposed "rainbow curb" plan was not voted on during the April meeting. For more information on LJCPA, visit www.lajollacpa.org.
