UCSD Recipient of Solar energy Grant
In a collaborative effort with UC Davis, UCSD in La Jolla has recently received a state grant of seven-hundred thousand dollars to expedite the use and continued development of solar energy.
The California Energy Commission, or CEC, distributes grants totaling upwards of $62 million per year. Grants are for research and development projects which are intended to provide affordable, yet environmentally sound energy services and products.

Farrokh Najmabadi, the director of the UCSD Center for Energy Research in La Jolla stated that the grant is a very positive step forward. It will allow UCSD to assist the CEC in the creation and execution of future policies surrounding the production of solar energy in the state of California. He continues by explaining that this process involves that coming together of all stakeholders who are involved in solar energy. It is a long and involved process in order to ensure that a comprehensive plan is drafted which covers the entire process of solar from discovery to distribution.

The state of California has a set goal of installing three thousand megawatts of solar energy throughout the state by the year 2017.
