The existing parking spaces in throughout La Jolla's village shopping district were evaluated for relevancy. Outdated yellow, white, red and green curbs were targeted. Additionally, unused bus stops and commercial driveways were also looked into.
The proposal was put fourth to do away with underused passenger and commercial loading zones along with abandoned drive-through curbside markings. The amount of red curbs throughout the village would be reduced and unused commercial zones would be eliminated and turned into usable parking.
City traffic engineers must approve all the alterations that are proposed in the plan, especially any modifications to existing red curbs for possible safety issues.
It is expected that once approved, the work order to alter the curb markings could take up to sixty days to complete.
