County Economic Future Brightens Up a Bit
San Diego County's economic index has risen in May, marking the second consecutive month of improvement. Released June 25 by the University of San Diego, the index tracks a list of leading economic indicators for the county.
The increase overall was a small one: just under one half percent. This follows a consecutive twenty four months of losses in the region. Improvement was not recorded since April of this year, when an increase of point two percent was recorded. Local economists are calling for "cautious optimism" with regards to the overall economic recovery of the county.

The turnaround in the USD index was powered mainly due to a slight increase in consumer confidence. Other powerful factors which continue to influence the area economy are the continued increase of unemployment claims and an ongoing slowing of hiring by local companies who continue to be unsure about their economic futures.

It is agreed that more positive data is needed in future months to determine whether or not the county is on track to a solid recovery.
