Embattled La Jolla Cove Seals Receive another Reprieve
A judge of the Superior Court set aside his order to force the city of San Diego to disperse the seal colony at the La Jolla children's pool with the use of barking dog sounds until a new hearing which has been set for the month of October.
The argument over whether or not the seals be forcibly removed from the cove in order to restore the children's pool to a public swimming area has been going on for over three months now.

The Governor of the California, Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a new state law this past week which grants the city of San Diego the power to make its own decisions regarding the best resolution as to how the cove pool should be utilized.

The San Diego City council voted in favor of allowing the seals to remain, however they also drafted a dispersal plan which totaled $689,000, an amount which the city simply cannot afford to spend in the midst of the recession.

Superior Court judge Yuri Hofmann set aside his previous order just prior to the deadline to begin the dispersing of the seals. The debate over the seals at the children's pool has been ongoing for more than ten years.
