Classic La Jolla Park in Need of Facelift
One of the jewels in La Jolla's crown is Scripps Park. A call to action regarding the need for refurbishments has been announced by a former La Jolla Town Council Trustee, Jerry Anderson.
Anderson has recently expressed his concerns regarding the state of neglect at the park. Anderson believes the condition of the park is at its worst ever, with patchy, dead spots of grass throughout and many dying trees in need of care or removal. Anderson's concerns have been passed along to Mike Forbes, current chairman of the La Jolla town council's parks committee. The committee was presented with photos to back up Anderson's concerns. District Councilwoman Sherri Lightner has also been made aware of the deteriorating conditions at Scripps Park. San Diego city parks and recreation maintenance crews are working to resolve the issues.

As of July 13, the grounds had been fertilized. The grounds maintenance crews have been wrestling with recent watering restrictions. Dead Torrey Pines trees will be replaced. Additional trash cans will be added to the area.

A long-term master plan for the ongoing care and development of the classic ocean-front park is in the works. The plan includes the renovation of the park's storm water drains, the hiring of a certified arborist to oversee the maintenance of the park's landscaping.

The next step for the park's master plan is to have it approved by the City Park and Recreation Board.
