City and state officials are now trying to convince people to begin conserving water now because, at this time,
it appears that San Diego residents will indeed experience a water shortage. With the continued threat of
global warming, thought to be causing irregular precipitation, and the deterioration of the Delta, where California
obtains most of its water from, it is being encouraged by our governor to act as quickly as possible to
help our ecosystem and economy continue to thrive.
Here are a few helpful hints for water conservation in San Diego:
First of all, make sure there are no leaks in your home. An easy way to check is by looking at your water meter reading and
then after a two hour period, where no water was used in your household, look at the meter again. If the meter does not
read exactly the same as it was two hours before, then you have a leak.
Try to not flush your toilet unnecessarily. Things like toilet paper, or a deceased bug are not really reasons to
flush your toilet.
If you have to take a bath, then fill it only to a necessary level, maybe one third full. If you have the option to
take a shower then try to spend half the time you usually do in the shower. You can also switch your showerhead to
a low flow head, which will also decrease the amount of water used.
Whenever you are shaving, or brushing your teeth, make sure to cut the water off instead of letting it
run the entire time.
Don't run the dishwasher, or the washing machine, unless there is a full load.
