La Jolla School Wants to Expand, Residents Don't
Some La Jolla residents are not happy about the proposed expansion of Children's School, a private school in La Jolla. The school was built in the 50's and wants to add more space for classrooms, however the school does not want to increase its enrollment. The expansion will improve parking lots, as well as, optimize drop off / pick up areas and the added classroom space will be environmentally friendly by featuring solar panels.
The private school is a nonprofit organization and was in the past a public school. They currently lease the land located in La Jolla Shores. The concerns from some nearby residents are the increased traffic on their street and the fact that some of them feel that the school has not reached out enough while making their expansion plans.

The school disagrees with that notion stating that they have held planning groups four times in the last three months and say that the notion that they are trying to hurry the project is not valid. In addition to the expansion, the school has also stated that they would pay for and fix the potholes on the street leading up to the school.

La Jolla residents will have until the 20th of this month to voice their opinions. If you would like your voice to be heard you can contact Anne Jarque, who is the environmental planner and her email address is atajarque@sandiego.gov.
