The series is comprised of three lectures and will feature UCSD's Scripps Institution of Oceanography researchers who will discuss the "Mysteries of the Earth".
These lectures will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. They will be held at the Birch Aquarium on 2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla. Tickets are $8.00 for the public and $5.00 for students and educators. Parking is included with admission to the Birch Aquarium.
Monday, September 13: The first lecture is "Shake, Rattle & Roll: The Physics Of Earthquakes" and will discuss what we experience while relating what is understood by scientists regarding the physics involved in the quakes and the techniques being used in order to determine when, where and how earthquakes happen.
Monday, October 11: This lecture is "Earthquakes in Southern California: A View From Space". The knowledge that we have about earthquakes and the gradual tectonic deformation that causes them to happen will be discussed.
Monday, November 8: This presentation is titled "Earth's Magnetic Field: From Satellites to Reversals". It will be about the magnetosphere and the ways in which Scripps Institute is contributing to the growth of understanding of the Earth's magnetism.
