LA JOLLA BENEFIT SWIM BRINGS BACK MEMORIES
Did everyone break out their goggles and crawl stroke for the Fourth Annual Shark Bait Classic!

The race got started after the 30th reunion of the La Jolla High School Class of 1977, when several friends were talking about fond memories of jumping off "The Clam" and swimming to La Jolla Shores.

The race consists of a one-mile swim from La Jolla Cove to La Jolla Shores followed by a six-mile run to The Cove via La Jolla. There will be a picnic after the race. The event is open to those of any age and fitness level.

The race was created by Kevin Gitre, Bob Buckley and Lee Carson in order to see that they would continue doing it on an official basis at least yearly. They decided to add a purpose to the event by raising money in order that underprivileged kids would be able to participate in youth rugby.

Rugby was chosen, as it is the fastest growing sport for young people in Southern California and will become a part of the Olympics in 2016. Also, they have a great enthusiasm for rugby along with the realization that it would not take a large amount of money for a positive impact to be made on the life of a young man.

A $15 donation to San Diego Youth Rugby is always appreciated.
