For those that can remember the dot com crash and economic recession that followed in San Diego. They may also remember how jobs were leaving
San Diego. Primarily the Aerojet and other defense contractors and their support companies left.
When the problem was analyzed many thought that the San Diego economy was too focused on the defense industry. A diverse economy with high tech and bio-tech companies taking the lead. The universities of San Diego began to have jobs within the communities of La Jolla, Sorrento Valley and soon throughout the San Diego County.
Part of what makes the San Diego such a target for real estate investors is the highly educated and skilled workers. Young professionals developed in some of the top schools in the United States, that come to San Diego to go to school fall in love with the climate and the 24 hour city, it beaches and extraordinary climate. The Robb report described La Jolla as "Simply the Best Place in the World to Live". The many fine schools in the county also attract many of the "Echo Boomers" and their families.
It appears that the economy in San Diego County, because of some of the reasons listed above, and because it's planned diversity of industry will be one of the leaders in economic recovery.
