This is a Hoax and been around for a long time, and there is a grain of truth in it. The idea of registering on the "Do not call" list is as good today as it has ever been for the last 5 years. Just call the following number from your cell phone 888-382-1222. It is the number for the national do not call list. It will only take a minute of your time, and it blocks your number forever. No need to re-register. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number. If you want to block any other telephone numbers go to the web site www.DoNotCall.gov .
One problem with the hoax is there is no rush; your number has been safe for a long time telemarketers using auto-dialers cannot legally make calls to cell phones. While your cell number maybe (probably is) available on the cell 411 directory the list is public but telemarketers don't call cell phones. It is easy to see how a well meaning person could misinterpret the information and send out the notice - which in turn gets amplified from well meaning sender to sender and so on it goes.
The Email Hoax seems like it has been around for as long as we have had email. Spammers have loved the hoax as a way to pass along a Trojan virus or other malware, from one well intentioned person to the next. If your security software doesn't pick it up it could be a nightmare. Many of the things classified as a "Hoax" may not be dangerous, but then again they might be. Spammers and hackers are still trying to take advantage of us and unfortunately they take advantage of our better nature and our want to warn our family and friends of problems in order to spread their evil plots.
Be sure you don't click on anything from somebody you don't know or unless you expect to receive the attached item contained in the email. If you can scan it for viruses before double clicking. Perhaps most important: for PC, and now even with Apple operating systems and software, have good security software installed and update it regularly. Keep your computer windows and mac updates current, and back up your data in case you need to restore it at some time (you will you know) and use good common sense when it comes to the internet and email.
