An Evening Out, in La Jolla
Last night we were fortunate to have dear friends visiting from out of town, they have a second home here and visit often, but we have not seen them in several months. They asked about where we would like to meet for dinner.

In La Jolla it is not a problem of limited good to great restaurants, but rather how to pick one! Two nights before we met friends at Barbarella's in La Jolla Shores and had really enjoyed the Salmon and the "Bib & Blue" salad. www.barbarellarestaurant.com Maybe the best Salmon I have had in a very long while! Our Friends had been to Piatti's www.piatti.com the night before and had enjoyed their evening, but wanted Italian that was more traditional, a family run neighborhood restaurant with good food. Over a year ago Italian friends visiting from New York took us to a Café they had discovered off the Village or La Jolla Shores beaten path and in the neighborhood area close to the La Jolla "Barber Track" and La Jolla Country Club area on Pearl Street near Draper. It is called the "Café Milano". www.cafemilanolajolla.com. The two things that I remember as favorites are the home made veal, lamb and pork meat balls served on fresh made gnocchi or fresh made pasta of your choice, the other item is on the dessert menu. I don't like tiramisu, but this is so light and so bright so melt in your mouth good that I order the Tiramisu each time we go to Café Milano.

There were six of us and we had a wonderful dinner and conversation the café is warm and friendly, but intimate and quiet enough to enjoy your company as well as the food. For a night out off the beaten path we suggest trying Café Milano, at 711 Pearl St., La Jolla, CA.
