2011 U.S. Foreclosure Report
Lender Processing Services reported this week that the number of homes across the U.S that have been foreclosed and are waiting to be resold fell slightly in April, but the level is still well above where it was a year ago. In the company's month-end report for April, it showed that there are still some 2,184,000 homes in the presale foreclosure inventory, which represent 4.14 percent of all current U.S. mortgages.

The number of homeowners who are 30 days or more behind on mortgage payments, however, rose 2.4 percent from March to April, though the number still 16.3 percent lower than in April 2010. There are 4.2 million homeowners behind by more than 30 days on payments but not yet in foreclosure, the report showed, with 1.9 million of those at least 90 days behind. Between homes currently in the foreclosure process and homeowners at least 30 days behind, a total of 6,388,000 U.S. homeowners are in jeopardy of losing their homes.

The states with the highest percentage of delinquent borrowers are Florida, Nevada, Mississippi, Alaska, Wyoming and North and South Dakota.
